Due to the situation of the coronavirus pandemic, new measures for entering a business premises were introduced and recommended, and there was a need for increased access control. In addition to standard safety and security solutions, new solutions have been developed, and one of them is thermal cameras with a thermal sensor that can detect elevated skin surface temperature, which is one of the symptoms of the disease.
By installing a thermal camera in the administrative building of A1 Hrvatska, the possibility of the COVID-19 infection has been reduced to a minimum. The real-time camera measures and displays the highest detected temperature on a person’s face and in case of an alarm (detected temperature above the upper allowed limit) activates the flashlight installed at the reception. However, in order to use the full potential of the camera, if technical requirements are met, it is possible to integrate cameras with the access control system, which then block certain readers and/or doors in a case of an event of a high-temperature alarm. In the administrative building of A1 Hrvatska, a Hikvision camera is placed next to the reception and directed towards the sliding front door. The temperature limit for triggering the alarm can be set arbitrarily. In the event of an alarm caused by elevated body temperature, the Epsimax application controls the entry readers on the barriers and automatically block entrance into the building until all the necessary conditions are met again. Employees at the reception desk have an insight into the current status of input readers and through the application they can manage them (enable/disable the entry of employees at any time). Also, the integration of the camera with the Epsimax application allows operators sound and visual notifications in real-time, and option to filter events recorded by thermal camera by a specific period and replaying them.
This method of detecting people with elevated body temperature allows simultaneous measurement of the body temperature of several passers-by, and in addition to the mobility of the solution, the biggest advantage is that the detection process can be done without physical contact, which further raises the level of security for employees and partners.
