The 4th Zagreb Urban Security Forum on the topic “Crime Prevention Day”

10.5.2021

The 4th Zagreb Forum on Urban Security on the topic of “Crime Prevention Day” was held in Zagreb at the Westin Hotel and was also live-streamed online. The forum was organized by the Croatian Association of Security Managers under the auspices of the City of Zagreb, and with the academic partnership of the Zagreb Police College with the aim of exchanging knowledge, experience and solutions that can contribute to urban security. “Achieving safe living and property security in the community is not only the responsibility of institutions, it is the responsibility of all of us who live in the community,” said the president of HUMS, Alen Ostojić.

The first part of the forum consisted of lectures related to the opinions of institutions, police and city officials on prevention and urban security, supported by experiences from different parts of Croatia. As part of the forum, a panel “Electric scooters in cities” was held where participants discussed whether electric scooters are a step away from cars or a step closer to accidents on city streets.
The second part of the forum was dedicated to new technologies in support of city safety and security, where representatives of KING ICT, Konica Minolta Mobotix, Tehnozavod Marušić, Prospectus and Eccos presented their innovative solutions.

Eccos Sales Director, Ivan Bilać, explained in more detail the application of Eccos solutions to increase urban security. He pointed out that urbanization is growing rapidly, and that the percentage of urban population has increased from 30% to 56% in the last seventy years, while the UN estimates that by 2050 this percentage will increase to 68%, which brings new challenges when it comes to city security. With the aim of raising urban safety and security, Eccos has developed two platforms, Epsimax and ESCEP (Eccos Smart City Enablement Platform). Epsimax is a comprehensive solution for the integration of various technical protection systems, security and other systems, and ESCEP enables the implementation of smart solutions in cities. ESCEP is used by the cities of Zagreb, Poreč and Rovinj.

One of the new solutions Eccos is currently working on is a robot in safety and security, specifically perimeter surveillance using robots. The robots have a large coverage area, enable safe operation for the operator, reduce costs due to the reduced need for a human perimeter patrol, while control is simple and can be manual or automatic along a predefined route. The biggest advantage of using robots in perimeter protection is the mobility of security sensors, ie cameras that are mounted on the robot and thus all the protected area is covered by video surveillance.
It is the integration of such and similar advanced technological solutions of partners with the Epsimax and ESCEP platforms that enables an adequate response to the key safety and security requirements of life in cities in the future.
