Modernization and extension of the parking management and payment system at Zadar Airport

31.1.2022

New technological solutions will be implemented at Zadar Airport to optimize the existing parking payment system system and expand the system for additional parking. Quality organization of the parking space is crucial for the satisfaction of passengers and staff, and thus the successful operation of the airport. With this project, we are continuing our long-term successful cooperation with Zadar Airport, where so far we have implemented a video surveillance system in addition to the parking management solution.

Modernization and replacement of obsolete and dilapidated entrance and exit terminals and boom barriers, which have been in operation for more than ten years, will ensure reliable operation, the possibility of supplying spare parts and upgrades in the future. The system will be expanded with a state-of-the-art automatic cash register with a touch screen and a simpler user interface with the aim of speeding up the payment process and thus reducing congestion in prime time.
The system for license plate recognition (LPR) is also being improved. LPR system allows ticketless exiting from the parking lot and the entry for prepaid customers or announced visitors by automatically raising boom barriers after recognizing the vehicle license plate number when reaching the barrier.

Eccos’ own software platform ESCEP (Eccos Smart City Enablement Platform) will improve the management of car rental parking spaces, and airport staff will use the application to administer data on car rental companies present at the facility (allocating the number of permitted spaces for car rental companies, adding and deleting vehicles, insight into pass reports, etc.). Car rental companies will manage the access rights of their vehicles themselves. In this way, the management of rent-a-car fleets will be greatly facilitated and the workload on airport staff will be reduced.
The parking capacity is increased by additional parking and the exit from the parking lot will be equipped with an interlocking system in order to prevent abuse (e.g. the exit of several vehicles in a row). With the interlocking system, instead of one boom barrier, two boom barriers are installed with the corresponding inductive loops installed in the pavement. After passing through the first barrier, the vehicle is briefly ‘trapped’ between the two boom barriers, and only after lowering the first barrier does the second one rise, and the vehicle can pass freely.

The implementation of new technological solutions will enable further development of the system, will ensure the reliable functioning of the parking fee system and will enable an increase in revenue due to the prevention of misuse of the system.
