On September 13, 2024, the second tube of the Učka tunnel was officially opened, marking significant progress in connecting Istria and the rest of Croatia. This project not only improves the region’s transport connectivity but also sets new standards for safety and technological excellence. We are proud to have played a key role in equipping the tunnel with modern electrical and mechanical systems.
The Učka tunnel, now with a new pipe almost six kilometers long, allows for a faster flow of vehicles through this vital traffic artery. In addition to meeting European safety standards, the project stands out as an example of successful cooperation at the national and regional levels. Prime Minister Andrej Plenković emphasized the project’s importance at the ceremony, calling it a “symbol of unity and progress”. The new pipe will facilitate traffic through this strategically important tunnel, relieving the old pipe, which will also be renovated soon.
Eccos has equipped the Učka tunnel with advanced key systems to ensure its functionality and safety. State-of-the-art equipment for power supply, lighting, signaling, ventilation, fire protection, communication, video surveillance, and traffic management systems have been installed. All these systems are interconnected to achieve the highest traffic safety standards. The Epsimax, Eccos’ own software solution, integrates all safety systems and, in cooperation with the SCADA system, serves as the basic tool for monitoring and managing the tunnel.
We are proud to have participated in this historic moment and to have contributed to the successful opening of the Učka tunnel with our work. Thanks to our systems, this tunnel is becoming one of the safest infrastructure projects in the region and beyond. For us, this project is not only a technical challenge, but also proof of our commitment to excellence and the innovations that shape the future of Croatian infrastructure.
