“The 27th World RoboCup 2024 robotics competition took place in the Dutch city of Eindhoven in July. It was a global gathering of knowledge, bringing together competitors from around the world. The event featured Junior (14 to 19 years) and Major (19 to 30 years) leagues, with approximately 3,000 roboticists from 45 countries participating. The competition’s goal is to advance the understanding, interest, and application of science in the fields of mechatronics, electronics, mechanics, computer science, the internet, and artificial intelligence.

Croatia was represented by 6 teams led by Ivica Kolarić, the national representative in the RoboCup Junior organization. They competed in five categories: Rescue Maze, Rescue Line, Soccer Light Weight, Soccer Open, and Rescue Simulation.
The competition was intense. Teams from around the world spend the entire year preparing for this major event and invest significant resources in robotics development. Despite Croatia’s relatively modest financial ability to invest in robotics, Croatian roboticists performed exceptionally well and returned from the competition with 6 awards: 1 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze!

1st place in the Rescue Maze Superteam category
2nd place in the Soccer Light Weight Superteam category
3rd place individually in the Rescue Maze category
3rd place individually in the Rescue Line category
3rd place in the Soccer Light Weight Superteam category
3rd place in the Soccer Open Superteam category

Two teams received special awards. One team won the award for being the best ranked team in the Soccer Junior Soccer Open, and the other team received the award for the best communication at the competition in the rescue Simulation category. These are our talented children who win medals with fewer resources and less technology, but with more work and better logic. They consistently compete alongside teams from Germany, Iran, China, and Japan in all categories.

I want to express my sincere gratitude for your generous donation, which made it possible for roboticists Goran Vukmanović, Ivan Matošević, and Jakov Džijan to participate in the World RoboCup Junior competition. As a result of your support, they achieved their best result so far, coming in 2nd place in the Soccer Light Weight Superteam category.

After returning from the competition, Goran and Jakov enrolled as freshmen at Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, while Ivan is pursuing mechatronics as a freshman at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture. At their respective faculties, they will continue to develop their skills in electronics, computer science, mechatronics, and mechanics. We are confident that they will also continue to compete in the RoboCup Major League.”
